[ah - he exhales the last amused breath he has and
manages a soft shrug]
.... Yona's alright. We knew what we sentenced Virid to when we placed our votes. Of course, I hate that our hands were tied on the decision we got to make, but...
Even if many of the tribes in my home have removed capital punishment as an option - it nonetheless existed for a very long time.
No peace is eternal, but any war or catastrophe will also have its end and recovery from it. There becomes a cycle, then, of peace and upheaval-- of bringing conflict to an end, of rebuilding and reestablishment, after which the world eventually forgets. Either its people become too complacent in this peace and invite new troubles, or conflict springs anew from those who have never truly been at war.
In some cases, the latter happens even earlier, thanks to those who would take advantage of peace for their own means. Familiar with war, but uncaring of it, or perhaps simply believing it to be worth the end result.
I don't know what to expect from immortal beings such as yourself.
Whether you view people as lesser, or as children, or as subjects. I know that I believe that each individual person is important, and I understand your respect for memories...
But I'm more interested in hearing your perspective, and how things look from your eyes.
I am not certain any of you would truly be able to see it.
[there's just- a vast gasp, in his estimation, between the eternal and the ephemeral. things they simply cannot quite see in the same ways, much as they might try.
a moment's pause, and:]
The question does stand, however.
[just going back to that... whether the diversion's intentional or not, he isn't following it for too long.]
But only a few. Although if those responsibilities exist at all, then you must yet have some involvement, else you would likely be pushed away from it.
[inheritance is often so jealously guarded when it comes to nobility, after all.]
I'm afraid that my parents offered me a lot of freedom - and for that, I'm grateful. I possess no siblings, and our rank is lower than that of everyone else in the family, so none would ever seek my head for anything more than ransom.
But I do love my country, and feel a commitment to the betterment of the people.
If there's anything about me that resembles nobility, I believe it to be that.
[what nobility should be - not the petty squabbles for power that it often is]

he keeps laughing, though he's polite enough to cover his mouth]
It's fine, I think it's charming, Mr. Rockstar.

[emet-selch waves that off-- if it honestly irritates him, he doesn't let that show in his expression, looking no more annoyed than he normally does.]
You seem in fine enough spirits, after this morning.

[but he moves on from that quickly enough.]
We knew, yes, and yet that makes it no easier on some of your number.
no subject
[HE WANTS TO KNOW]
As for "your number".... Are you referring to humans as an entire group?
no subject
[they just all get lumped together...
and as for the first question-]

And what do you think? Have you ever become entangled in the cycle yourself?
no subject
[it's never personal, really.]
no subject
hums thoughtfully at that]
... to guide their way? Are you also often called upon in order to prevent humanity or others from destroying themselves?
no subject
I am not called upon by anyone. I simply do my duty.

[(good place voice) who died and put emet-selch in charge of ethics]
no subject
[because he's old.]

[he doesn't want to say 'lucky' but also
what a simple process!]

[...but he also doesn't seem inclined to elaborate.]

[he's just going to keep asking, man]
no subject
[he's still not going to answer, he's got curiosities himself.]
no subject
he looks excited]
You actually asked about me!
no subject
[a dismissive wave of his hand... don't get excited, jeez]
no subject
[at least he's honest]

I'm a merchant. Though I do possess noble blood, so I guess I have a few varying responsibilities and interests that come with that.
