I don't know what to expect from immortal beings such as yourself.
Whether you view people as lesser, or as children, or as subjects. I know that I believe that each individual person is important, and I understand your respect for memories...
But I'm more interested in hearing your perspective, and how things look from your eyes.
I am not certain any of you would truly be able to see it.
[there's just- a vast gasp, in his estimation, between the eternal and the ephemeral. things they simply cannot quite see in the same ways, much as they might try.
a moment's pause, and:]
The question does stand, however.
[just going back to that... whether the diversion's intentional or not, he isn't following it for too long.]
But only a few. Although if those responsibilities exist at all, then you must yet have some involvement, else you would likely be pushed away from it.
[inheritance is often so jealously guarded when it comes to nobility, after all.]
I'm afraid that my parents offered me a lot of freedom - and for that, I'm grateful. I possess no siblings, and our rank is lower than that of everyone else in the family, so none would ever seek my head for anything more than ransom.
But I do love my country, and feel a commitment to the betterment of the people.
If there's anything about me that resembles nobility, I believe it to be that.
[what nobility should be - not the petty squabbles for power that it often is]
Nobility in spirit rather than merely in blood, you mean. I cannot say I disagree.
Though it is sometimes equally true that they make weaker leaders, for an inability to recognize that the occasional sacrifice cannot be avoided. They shy too far away from anything that may harm the populace at all, shelter them, and are inevitably overcome.
[there's a flash of - something in soo-won's eyes. a distant amusement, but overall a sense of agreement.]
.... mm.
It's a shame, that kind hearts can rarely be enough to protect and serve populations that are in your care. It would be nice if being soft and gentle was enough to save everyone.
I doubt such a thing is possible. Not with the ways of humanity.
[softness will inevitably be taken as weakness. gentleness will not be strong enough to withstand conflict. in the end, the baser sides of humanity will win out.]
...so it can be. Another thing which complicates matters; opposing sides may each act out of a desire to help what they care for most, but often, both cannot be successful.
That's when power and influence come into play, no? Whoever can be the most convincing to the greatest amount of people - even if both sides are not technically right nor wrong.

[he's just going to keep asking, man]

[he's still not going to answer, he's got curiosities himself.]

You actually asked about me!

[a dismissive wave of his hand... don't get excited, jeez]

I'm a merchant. Though I do possess noble blood, so I guess I have a few varying responsibilities and interests that come with that.

Kindness isn't a crime, but even when expressed it will often invite cruelty and opportunism from others.
Though even that which might be called cruelty can be born out of an intense desire to protect - whether that be oneself, or that which they care for.
