Though it is sometimes equally true that they make weaker leaders, for an inability to recognize that the occasional sacrifice cannot be avoided. They shy too far away from anything that may harm the populace at all, shelter them, and are inevitably overcome.

It's a shame, that kind hearts can rarely be enough to protect and serve populations that are in your care. It would be nice if being soft and gentle was enough to save everyone.
I doubt such a thing is possible. Not with the ways of humanity.

...so it can be. Another thing which complicates matters; opposing sides may each act out of a desire to help what they care for most, but often, both cannot be successful.
That's when power and influence come into play, no? Whoever can be the most convincing to the greatest amount of people - even if both sides are not technically right nor wrong.

Kindness isn't a crime, but even when expressed it will often invite cruelty and opportunism from others.
Though even that which might be called cruelty can be born out of an intense desire to protect - whether that be oneself, or that which they care for.
