Death isn't uncommon where I'm from, unfortunately. No one's died by vote or guillotine, though in some cases I wonder if that might have been kinder.

They may have complicated things when they added the dynamics of 'your life's wish granted' and 'losing pieces of yourself along the way'.

Otherwise, it does require the general hope that you care about restoring the balance to the universe.

I don't know if it'll work but... I've been exchanging with people - offering to hold onto their memories for them, even temporarily, and vice versa.

I've been writing them down. Using the PHS feels a bit... well. You can lose paper easily too, but you can't just vanish it in the blink of an eye like you could data.

There's only so much a person can take though. Maybe getting to know each other and doing some activities together will mean we're more willing to rely on each other when we need to though...
