anyway i said i would start but this starter is going to be so stupid and useless because soo-won is literally just going to collapse. he can't even deal with everyone else's issues which are way bigger! he doesn't crumple to the floor so much as just stagger to his knees, but who cares about him! this is simply another day in the life of soo-won ]
[ OKAY? he watches this insane vine snake its way back down into the ground, rooted in place and trying to regain his senses. he snaps out of his own head temporarily watching soo-won end up in the dirt of nowhere. ]
Hey! [ he can help, right? he can do something, and it means he moves forward to try and support him. ] What happened?
[ sorry, he was busy and couldn't track what you three were doing. ]
[ the way that soo-won was apparently gaming so hard that he also didn't notice what happened to everyone else. it's fine. it's cool. he's breathless against the pain, his hand pressed against his chest—but he tries to focus enough to respond to yosuke ]
Ah... I suppose... the game isn't meant to... do that.
Yeah, definitely not. [ he's going to crouch a little to be at his eye level, anything to still be in his line of vision. ] Take a breath. Where does it hurt?
[ he shakes his head and takes a few more seconds to adjust his breathing, and then he'll move to regain his feet ]
I'm alright. [ and he does sound better, even if it's through sheer force of will. but feeling like he's dying also isn't new ] Really. Thank you for your concern.
[ everyone missed so much?? he's fine though, don't worry about him. he does sense eyes on him though and tilts his head back to look at edamura. ]
Everything okay? [ if anything it's to bring him into conversation and keep all four of them connected, but he's also half-tempted to slip away before anyone asks deeper questions. ]
[ sir your orange... and you didn't think to share? tch. ]
I don't know what happened to him. He just hit the dirt out of nowhere. [ he sounds worried about it, but he keeps thinking of ways he can try to make this better and getting nowhere. ] You weren't watching?
[the funny part of all of this is that Edamura missed every intensely creepy thing that happened to Yosuke and Soo-Won because he was too busy chasing his childish whimsy and eating a delicious orange. an orange that started off as a drawing on a paper and somehow became a real fruit, but you know what. he won't thinks too hard about that]
[still munching on a slice as he hears the sound of Soo-Won's knees hitting the ground with a soft whump. he spins around, and--]
-- Won?
[hold on give him a second to shove the rest of the orange into his mouth before he trots over to check on this poor guy]
[ DELICIOUS ORANGE!!!!! GOOD FOR HIM. soo-won is struggling a bit, his face twisted from exertion, though he still tries to find his sense of humor for some reason ]
[ it's fine, it's fine... he takes a second to steady his breathing, but it evens out remarkably quickly. sometimes masking pain is your daily job. so he manages a smile, even if it's not as bright as usual ]
I believe the game fought back against me a bit...
[ oranges shouldn't be capable of holding so much juice, is what Lois is thinking airily when she happens to turn her head at the exact moment she registers movement out of the corner of her eye. what's his name again?
Sue Won. right. ]
You alright?
[ he doesn't look so good. she hesitates (she would NOT normally be this bad about sharing, but this damn fruit is so good that it's making her forget about everything else for a while—isn't that a slippery slope to go down, although she's probably skiing down one already at full speed—) before offering him the last two slices of her half. ]
[ right. Lois considers turning away and giving him his space because that's what she would want if she was in his position of obvious discomfort, but that feels a helluva lot like ignoring someone in pain.
the remaining orange slices stay uneaten for now as she awkwardly crouches down so he doesn't have to look up at her (she was enjoying that for once, ok). ]
[ ignoring him would genuinely would have made him feel better than this, because attention is uncomfortable, but it's fine. he pulls himself back together in record time anyway, because it's almost like he's used to this. he'll start to rise so she doesn't have to crouch any longer ]
[unfortunately, Edamura has already finished his half of the orange. . . which means he is eyeing those two slices as Lois offers them to Soo-Won. something itches from within; a craving, but not the usual sort he has for smoke and ash. he shoves it aside]
[ if Lois really examined herself, she'd be wondering why she's accepting strange fruit from a strange place at all, and even playing games, but—no harm, no foul. not yet, anyway. a restlessness settles in her chest; not the kind that can be shaken off with any physical activity.
she's secretly glad Soo-Won said no to her last two orange pieces and just barely has enough awareness to feel a modicum of shame about it. ]
Do you think there are any other oranges? Maybe that'll help.
[the dim, logical part of his brain wants to answer immediately-- no?? how would they help?? but those thoughts are currently being overshadowed by the need for another bite]
Oh-- maybe?
[he crouches down in front of the gachapon machine and gives it a little tap]

[ he says, with a ring of teeth marks in the center of his chest i guess. but his expression softens a little while he's digging deep to focus. ]
This place is kind of a nightmare and things happen without warning. Just take it easy.

Yeah. I'm fine.
[all he ate was a super delicious orange. the emptiness of longing, of knowing that nothing in the world will ever compare, has yet to truly sink in]
Did something happen to you and Won?

No. [except as he says that, he suddenly feels a little guilty. maybe he should have been watching??] You weren't, either?

Don't worry about me. I just ate an orange.

What do you mean when you say the video game fought back?

One of my chess pieces decided to orchestrate betrayal... [ a little gasp ] How dramatic.
