[Spoken easily, with no weight behind his words besides what Archer deems to be the truth.
Because life is built off conflict. You are born, you live, you struggle, you die. And to struggle means to eventually rob someone else of their chance, be it with a knife to the throat or stolen resources you didn't even realize weren't yours.
Most people here will want to live. So they'll conflate their own importance in preparation for the burden.
-- At least, that is the worst-case scenario. He catches his thoughts before they spiral further, his eyes glancing up at the canopy of trees.
I'd call him down for you, but I think he might be getting antsy given the current limitation of his sky. Did you know the barrier extends even that high up?
I'll try to introduce you to Gulfan soon.
[he cants his head to the side]
Actually - you're familiar with medicine, aren't you, Archer? Is there a way I could seek your expertise?
[Oh? It's his then? Archer arches his brows, intrigued by it and the height of the barrier. He pauses long enough to give the hawk another glance, though he's paying attention enough to answer the question]
I do not mind sharing my knowledge. What is it that you wish to know?
The basics - I know general first aid, but I'm curious about medicine specifically. The types that can heal poison, burns, or assist with fevers or shortness of breath.
I worry that people might work themselves into some rather stressful states, the longer we're here. I'd like to be prepared with remedies to soothe them, even if temporarily.
That is fine. I've already agreed to teach those who are eager to learn here.
[he reaches to one of the baskets attached to his hip, and pulls out a dried piece of vegetation]
As I don't know what types of medical professionals we have besides Shiro Fujimoto, I've been stocking up on some of the local plant life, to test what can be used for medicines.
I'll be testing everything on myself, first, with increased degrees of potency. You may watch if you'd like, however.
[The plant, on closer inspection, is chamomile. No idea if Soo-Won would recognize it, but there it is]
Diluting herbs into teas is generally the safest approach once I've deemed the plant safe for human consumption. There's also using the vegetation for topical use.
[... Spoken with no hesitancy, and not much emotion.]
But memories are malleable and ever changing, ever growing. Should I forget, there's equal chance I'll just discover that joy again. It isn't productive for me to fear what I can't yet change.
Should an avenue reveal itself, that I might protect what I need to protect, I'll take it. If there isn't one, I will simply face whatever fate I must.
[a rather impressive answer, soo-won thinks. he's thought the same - that what's been forgotten might be regained again, possibly. if someone forgets a piece of their identity, a hobby, a recipe of their favorite food, that's not to say those pieces are lost.
but then there are pieces like family members that no one else knows, parts of your history that you'll never get back until the end (if they succeed).
he wonders.]
I don't know.
I find myself preparing just in case - because I think that there are parts of myself that I'd rather hate to lose, or pieces of history that none know but I. And perhaps those moments don't matter in the grand scheme of things, in the face of human legacy...
But they matter to me, and I think that's reason enough.
[he's not quite as agonized as other people are over the news - but he's not pleased either]
[The corners of his mouth tick up. Likewise, he finds that to be an appropriate answer given the circumstances, and holds along with the cadence of Won's words.
With all things being equal, it only makes sense to grasp for what makes a person an individual, memories and all.]
There is, of course, a solution -- find someone you might trust and tell them the story of your life. Make someone else the keeper of your memories for a while, just in case.
[Which, y'know, they could also lose, but it certainly decreases the likelihood of a person's personhood being so thoroughly robbed]
[and he does look pleased! he's happy that he came up with similar plans to archer, who seems so level-headed and wise.]
It's a bit difficult, given that we've only spent a few days here... but I don't mind sharing what I find most important to me, if others similarly don't mind holding onto those ideals for a time.
Are there any you might be willing to trust me with, Archer? We might as well all look out for one another.
Ah... from my end, that actually won't be necessary.
[he says with a smile]
I am ... unique, we shall say. Even if my own memories were to deteriorate, there are many who know of me, even if they don't realize it.
[Casually claiming his memories to be immortal for Reasons. Just Archer things]
Though I wouldn't consider it a fair trade to offer you nothing in return... [Folding his arms, one of his front hooves digging into the dirt as he thinks]
Very well. There are memories I would be willing to share.
[soo-won looks thoughtful at that before offering up a smile as he seems to think of something, bright and rejuvenated]
Would you mind holding onto the memory of my father for me? Yu-hon! He was a military man, you see, and he was a strong warrior who would protect the country's borders! Strong, gallant, he would do anything for the sake of protecting the people and the ones he loved.
Even after he was passed over for an important position in nobility lines, he said - "Rank matters not to me. I'll continue to fight on the front lines to protect my brother and the people."
When I was young I even thought that I'd become part of the military to follow after my father, stand beside him, and give my life for him. His intelligence and courage are still unmatched as far as I'm concerned!

Hm, that is not a species I'd noticed before.

How will you be testing? I'd like to observe and assist, if possible.

Ah, this one's wonderful before bedtime. [thanks soo-won]
Mm! I'll be in your care. Thank you, Archer. I'll search for a way to repay you by the end of our time here.

If I've need of you, then you will know. Otherwise I do not expect payment for my lessons.

Of course, don't be disappointed if I'm not easily impressed.

soo-won looks curious at that - ]
Ah, so because your legacy is so vast, you believe that your memory loss will be of a slightly different nature compared to the rest of us?
[interesting. soo-won wonders how that theory's going to shake it]
I hope you'll share what the results of that hypothesis are.
But I'm happy to trade anyway.
no subject
But of course. I can't be certain of what will happen. And even if I'm correct, that won't change that there are experiences only known to me.
[Which means he stands to lose something, even if a part of him might never "die". The stakes are still in place]
Shall we trade right now, then? A pleasant memory for a pleasant memory.
