I'm doing my best to fight my way through the tsundere. I'll get there eventually though. So long as I don't lose too many important memories along the way.
[He chuckles, but he knows why Soo-Won is asking, so.]
Yuri Egin. She's someone important to me. She helped make me who I am today. So if I ever forget her, I'll probably change a lot. I was kind of a jerk before she and I became co-workers.
[Shiro hears that tone, and that compels him to share more than he might normally. He's so used to people with ill intentions trying to get stuff from him, so hearing a bit of sincerity is nice.
Also he never talks about this, and holding onto a secret for over 15 years is a Lot.]
She was really short. Not even 150cm tall, and yet somehow she could command a room with her presence. She was super-bossy, and always stuck her nose in everyone's business. If she didn't like what you were doing, she'd make you aware of that fact. Often.
But you know, I don't think I've ever known someone as genuinely kind as she was. She just...loved people. Her whole life was spent helping others. And she was so earnest about it too. Even talking to her once, you could tell she didn't have a mean bone in her body.
It's inspiring, you know? Doing the right thing, helping others, she made it look so easy. I dunno how she did it.
[The fact that this is all said in the past tense might betray how it all turned out, though.]
he listens closely, and if they're close enough to emotion share, shiro will notice that the sincerity in soo-won's voice is reflected in those same emotions. the gratitude that comes with being trusted with a portion of shiro's life, the interest in learning more about it.]
.... mm. People like that, who are able to see the world in a good light even when it's darkest - they're certainly a sight to behold.
I can't say I'm surprised that she made an impression on you.
[even though he also understands that there's probably a less happy ending to her story]
But still, Shiro is taking Soo-won's interest at face value, so he will nod in agreement.]
They are, yeah. I know I'll never be as naturally good at it as she was, but trying to be good-natured like that, it's not a bad idea. Sometimes I gotta stop myself and count to ten though. You guys here really try my patience sometimes, haha!
Oh, definitely not. Anyone who tries to hide their past behind pretty words and a nice uniform is a liar. A truly good person lets their past inform their present.
Sadly, there's a lot of those types- the ones hiding themselves- in religion. People take 'God forgives you' to mean 'you have no consequences for your actions', when that's not the truth at all.
[there's a beat where soo-won takes a bit longer to answer than normal.
there's a distant emotional twist - one of understanding, coupled with a sense of loss and mourning.]
.... it's too bad.
I'm afraid I don't take much interest in my country's gods - but I do like to hear about other world's. It's saddening to think that that type of mentality seems to permeate regardless of location.

[and for that he sounds - really sincere? like shiro could tell him anything and he'd still hang off every word]
Oh - it sounds like a lot of people have someones in their life who changed them for the better. What was she like?

Fufu, I think that's normal though -
And just because you grow frustrated, that doesn't mean that your feelings aren't born out of kindness and affection.

That's a nice thought, honestly. Though I do get frustrated a lot. Would you believe that I used to punch people a lot more than I do now?

[HANSA HAS COMPLETELY RUINED SOO-WON'S EXPECTATION OF PRIESTS]
no subject
What priests are you talking to?
no subject
Hansa!

I'm afraid I wouldn't know.... Most priests have disappeared from my country - and my father wasn't exactly a fan of them.
[though
he looks a little surprised at himself for sharing the second bit.
huh.]
But I do like Hansa - and you!
I just also think that people are people... and even if those choose certain paths in life, that doesn't mean that it erases who they used to be.

It's just unfortunate that not every person has good intentions.
no subject
... or even if something begins as good intentions, it does not always manifest in the best results for everyone.
But that push and pull is part of human existence too.

[He has a lot to mull over now, and his mood has dipped a bit. He's missing his family :(]
Aaah, I think I'll have to call it a night here. This old man needs his rest.
