Normally because you know they’d say no. And you don’t want them to, and what you want is more important to you than what they want... and you’re willing to accept that and go ahead with it anyway.
Sometimes it’s not malicious, and it’s done out of kindness. But a lot of the time it’s not.

But you're right as well - that often when there are equal relationships, being trustworthy means being clear about your intentions. It'd be nice if the world always worked that way.
