Considerably different from my guess - then it seems like I'm still looking for someone who can no longer be rude.
[unless that actually is true but he'll find out tomorrow. he offers her a blanket.]
Cater's death last week was caused because of a disruption in her nova - it was sudden and the only way to prevent the problem from worsening was if she was killed.
I was wondering if Laine's death stemmed from the same problem - but to have that delivered in a dream is odd. There's a chance that for Izumo, she might actually be having the fragmented nova problem that's making her think it was a dream.
So I suppose we'll need to look at the evidence tomorrow and consider it.
Because there are a number of powers that have been affecting people's behavior this week. There is someone who Sora is familiar with who can no longer be rude [he guessed it was izumo bc she's the rudest person he can think of that associates with sora so it'd be noticeable], Hua Cheng and Claude won't be able to get along with each other tomorrow so we should keep them separate, and I have been volunteering more personal information about myself all week.
[so that's soo-won's small checklist of power usage]
Goat has the ability to influence other people's dreams, but I don't know if they could be convinced to use it for that against Laine? It's a bit odd.
Supposedly the disruption that Cater's nova caused was meant to be dealt with last week, but I've been assuming it might happen again. I was going to investigate the situation tomorrow to determine if the incidents were related.
[but soo-won is... neutral. it's perhaps easier, given how little he knows about izumo, but.]
The only important part is discerning whether or not Izumo's dream was caused by fracturing memories and nova - if it is, then she'll need to be removed in order to prevent it from harming others.
If it isn't, then she doesn't deserve to die more than anyone else even if she's guilty - but reaching the correct conclusion at trials generates more nova than less, so it may be to our benefit if we try to do that.
[because.... he doesn't really care about finding the perpetrators for moral reasons? not really. not when in these situations, it seems like murders stem not from selfish reasons but rather pragmatism.]
[ He can feel her being a little displeased for a second before it fades. Is there a point to this power usage? ]
Izumo could not be rude last week. I don't know how true it remains for this week because she wasn't kind to the skeletons we fought on Wednesday.
[ Or maybe her perspective is skewed because Jeanne tried not to force her presence on Izumo after being rolled for executing Kano and was expecting worse.
She knows she needs to set aside her feelings, though. She almost always does. He can feel her tucking her emotions away.
That said, a lot more clicks into place. ]
If our goal is to collect more nova while trying to find whatever may be taking it away, then we should so what will be more effective. Although if she or anyone else were directed to kill because of fracturing nova, it will complicate matters for those less pragmatic.
[ But... they still need to do what will be better for everyone within the confines or the rules set out for them. ]
Ah, so I'm just a bit late on the update - that's not too bad then. Still, an interesting power to be put into place. It seems like a rather purposeful usage, doesn't it?
[he thinks that's interesting! given that hua cheng and claude seem random but himself and izumo don't. weiiiird. anyway, he listens to her explanation before shaking his head]
In truth, I disagree. There are other ways to collect nova besides voting correctly. The primary ways to do so are involvement in the oddities on Wednesday and Saturdays due to the fact that they generate large amounts whether due to emotional fatigue or voting. Other ways to generate nova include bettering our relationships with ourselves and our leaders, and involvement in those adventures like the one that I and Xie Lian were forced on.
I would rather allow those who were compelled to kill on orders to live, tell us exactly what happened, and then we move on. If voting correctly is just one way of generating nova, I think that it can be made up for in other avenues.
I'll seek out the truth the same as everyone else on Saturday - but I don't consider finding it a matter of morality the way that others might.
None deserve to die more than any other, just as none deserve to be put in positions where they kill more than any other.
Aren't they all? It's a matter of why the powers are being used. Hua Cheng and Claude do have vivid personalities.
[ They both have their own kind of charisma, and she can imagine if they were to get at each other, it'd be tiring.
Jeanne frowns. ]
That is to say if all the murders were ordered and none were for selfish gains. I don't cast judgment simply because of that, however.
[ The Holy Grail War is operated on people who would kill for a selfish wish. That's the entire premise (outside of mages being inhumane nerds but that's another matter).
There is little morality to be had. ]
If you prefer to allow them to live, that is still relegating someone else to die. I do not think they deserve to die any more if they were put into that position, but I would vote for whoever is responsible.
I want to find the truth, and if there was a way to do without the vote, I would chase it. If we could disregard that someone must be removed from our choices on Saturday, I would be more than happy to focus on those other avenues.
I brought up the possibility that Claude and Hua Cheng was done in order to distract us, and there's the possibility that it was also done to cover up premeditated intentions. If two smart people are suddenly throwing accusations at each other, it makes you less likely to listen - but perhaps there's a kernel of truth to them. It's something to consider.
[so he'll be watching hua cheng and claude rather closely with the evidence as well.
that said, he listens to jeanne and nods along.]
I'll likely vote for whoever's responsible if only because getting it wrong week after week will put a dampener on the spirits of the people here, and it objectively generates more nova.
However I also believe that if someone killed to remove another whose nova was fracturing and that person living is a greater asset than liability to getting information or reaching the truth, I'd have to weigh the situation more heavily to determine if I'll follow the rules of engagement.
[so there's a chance that he'll continue the voting process as expected - there's also a chance that he just doesn't care for the idea that one person deserves to die more than another just because they were assigned a bad job.]
I am used to watching over battles where morality has little ground, but that is in an arena where everyone is on more or less the same page. I will remain as objective as I can be, but I will admit...
I wonder if...
[ There's a faint sense of unusual uncertainty, timidity that is quickly wrapped and tucked away.
She shakes her head. ]
I don't think you're wrong in your assessment. [ Gathering information for their entire situation as a whole is important. ] I only hope they'll have information we need or that they'll be willing to give it to us.
.... there is no life that matters more than another.
[he's agreement with her on that - even though it seems to manifest just a bit differently.]
But.... there are some who are vital to continuing forward. Should Archer fall, we will be greatly damaged even though some of us are trying to learn more about medicine. Should Lup or Taako lose one or the other, they'd be nearly inconsolable -
No matter how we proceed... keeping everyone's dynamics and relationships in mind is also important.
[because otherwise they're a powder keg about to explode, as far as he's concerned. it's a matter of trying to figure out how to balance it all. all loss is terrible, but some loss cuts more deeply than others - and he sees that not even emotionally, but just pragmatically.]
But we'll proceed tomorrow and gather what information we can.
[and then shima tells everyone everything and it's cool]
[ That is very pragmatic, a judgment that's very much like a king to make, and for a moment, Jeanne is reminded of another king she's met. She shakes the memory from her mind because she has only ever wanted to see Soo-won for Soo-won, king or otherwise. ]
If it is a matter of fracturing nova...
[ If those are the ones who must be killed instead of the ones who have someone been selected to kill... Who can tell how the dice will roll? Who can tell when and why someone is affected in such a way? It's something they still must figure out, if there even is an answer for those questions. ]
I don't think many can view it quite like you, but on the whole, they won't disagree.
But emotions aren't something anyone can predict.
[ As much as she tries to keep herself removed, she has always cared about morale. ]
Tomorrow will tell us where to go from there.
[ shima really went and doxxed everything he could in a surprise twist ]

[ How curious. She takes the blanket even if she still smells of fish and wraps it around herself as she takes in the information. ]
Would the disruption in Carter's nova touched others?
If it isn't a dream caused by something and her memory fracturing, that would implicate her.
[ She's being carefully neutral. ]
I do think she is trying to spread the information, so I don't know how this is going to pan out tomorrow.
